There is no right answer in situations like this. We look at how you think.
A friend, a mortgage and a list he has not seen
You work at a company alongside a friend. Your role means you see the year-end redundancy list before anyone else — your friend is on it. The decision is not formal yet, but it is unlikely to change. That same week your friend tells you he is signing a mortgage in a few days. He has saved the deposit for years, chosen the flat and submitted the papers to the bank. He is sharing his excitement with you. The list is confidential. Disclosing it breaches your employment contract and puts your own job at risk. Staying silent means letting your friend make a decision that binds the next 15 years of his life on incomplete information.
